Lent

Traditionally Lent was about re-connecting with God and following in the footsteps of Christ in 3 major arenas: prayer, fasting and service. Some attribute the 40 days of Lent to Christ's 40 days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness... others attribute it to mad monk disease. Regardless, the discipline of fasting something for 40 days in order to connect more deeply with God (through prayer) is noble and, might I add, effective.

At least for me.

Last year I fasted TV for 40 days. It was incredibly enriching. And did I mention agonizing?

This year I am trying to get back to some roots and considering all three arena's of prayer, fasting and service. Here's my game plan:
  • I'm praying instead of listening to ESPN during my morning commute... I've decided to try this with my eyes open.
  • I'm fasting sweets. That means no chocolate. Yeah... I know. I also included Frappuccino's in that category. Tragic.
  • I'm still working on the service component. I'm praying for awareness and a burden. I'll let you know what happens.

Care to join me?
