Spiritual Habits for your Heart

A little over a year ago I started experiencing chest pains.  Work had become all-consuming, I was eating unhealthily, I wasn’t exercising and I never allowed myself to rest.  It was a recipe for disaster, even for someone in their early 30’s.  After a battery of tests the doctor was clear, I needed to embrace some personal disciplines if I wanted to keep my heart healthy.

It’s no surprise that I pushed the panic button when my heart began to tell me something was wrong.  It would have been crazy not to; after all, heart issues aren’t something to ignore.  Anyone in that situation would have realized that something was wrong and that something needed to be done because when your heart begins to have trouble, you listen.

I wish the same were true spiritually.  I wish I had the same sense of urgency for my spiritual health that I do for my physical health, but the truth of the matter is that when my heart begins to tell me that something is wrong I often ignore it.

Over the next few days I'll share what I've been learning on this journey and I'll peel back some of the layers on some of the spiritual habits I've had to embrace to keep my heart healthy...
